BANGOR
Jaycee Michek finished with 18 kills in each of Thursday's Scenic Bluffs Conference wins. The senior outside helped the Cardinals move to 3-0 in SBC play with a 3-1 over Brookwood and a 3-2 win over Cashton at Cashton. Brenna Dietrich logged 16 digs in Thursday's win against Brookwood and chalked up 26 more in the five-set victory against Cashton. On Sept. 15, Bangor topped Royall 3-1.
A third quarter score by Ithaca set up a 12-8 victory against Bangor Sept. 11. Will Reed finished with 14 total tackles in the loss. The last time BHS was 1-3 was 2007 when the team finished 3-6.

BROOKWOOD
Brookwood's Cooper Powell raced to a first place finish in the small school race at the River Valley invite on Saturday, Sept. 12. Powell finished the 5K in a time of 16:59.2 - nearly eight seconds ahead of Southwestern's Josh Richardson.
Powell's time was third among all runners. Madison West's Nathan Schwoerer (15:34) and St. Ambrose Academy's Jonathan Simon (15:38) were the only others to run a sub-17-minute time.
The Falcon boys had three other top-ten finishes from August Rueckheim (3), Nolan Waddell (6) and Sawyer Stenerson (10) and the team's last scoring runner - Owen Waddell - was 26th. In total, BHS tallied just 44 points, placing first, and was ahead of second place Fennimore (78) by 34 points. Hillsboro's Dominic Kirkpatrick was fifth and Royall's Troy Hafemeister was eighth.
Miranda Arndt led the Falcon girls with a 23rd place finish while Samantha Markee was 24th at River Valley. Brookwood's girls were fifth (137).
Brookwood's volleyball team lost to Bangor and Hillsboro 3-1 at Cashton on Sept. 10. Kinsley Holmquist ended with 26 kills across the two losses The Falcons went 3-3 at the Sparta invite on Sept. 12 and lost to Wonewoc-Center 3-1 Tuesday.
Three first half turnovers doomed the Falcon football team at home against Hillsboro on Sept. 11.Brennan Mack threw two first half picks, including one that was taken 100 yards for a score by Malekai Simpson midway through the second quarter.
Brookwood finished with 217 passing yards and outgained HHS 253-182.

SPARTA
Holmen piled on 23 points in the second quarter in Friday's football game, defeating Sparta 44-21. Simon Schmitz ended with 60 passing yards and 79 rushing yards and two total touchdowns.
Sparta ended 3-2 at its home volleyball tournament. The Spartans claimed wins over Arcadia, Colby and Cashton in the early part of the invite.
The Spartans boys soccer team remains winless entering this week. Sparta suffered a 3-0 loss to Onalaska on Sept. 1, then a 4-1 defeat by Sparta two days later and fell against Aquinas 2-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

VIROQUA
Viroqua's volleyball team enters this week on an 11-game winning streak. The Blackhawks swept Arcadia last week, then went on a tear at the Lancaster tournament, posting a mark of 6-0.
Coach Katie Schwarz and company bested River Ridge 2-1, Kickapoo, Black Hawk 2-0, Southwestern 2-0 in two matches and topped the run with a 2-1 victory over Fennimore. On Tuesday, VHS defeated Black River Falls 3-0.
Viroqua girls tennis lost 4-3 to Black River Falls on Sept. 10 and went 0-3 at Portage on Sept. 12.
Levi Hanson scored the lone fourth quarter touchdown for the Blackhawks in a 42-6 loss to Luther in football. The VHS squad will entertain Westby this week.
