To the Gallows

It had been a great day at school. Mom had packed a yummy lunch for me which included a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a banana. We usually didn't get any fruit that wasn't raised on the farm except when Mom was canning pears and peaches. And there was a piece of cake for dessert. What a treat!

Winter finally released its grip on the land, the school yard was turning green and we could finally play baseball. I hit a homer over the fence into the woods. We were all hot...
