Clap, clap, clap. Rub, rub, rub. Each time I clapped the erasers together, a puff of chalk dust floated into the air like a tiny cloud. It was my week to clap the erasers and I wanted to do a good job. I wonder how many erasers I clapped during my 8 years at Woodlawn School.
As I thought about this memory, I reflected on the possibility of my grandchildren ever clapping erasers, or cleaning a chalkboard, or hauling water from the nearest farm to the school. How would today's generation...
