Track sectional sends Eagle athletes onto State Championship

The Cashton Eagles track teams traveled to Kickapoo High School for the regional track meet on Monday, May 23rd. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Sectional meet. The Lady Eagles advanced athletes in 10 of the 18 events enroute to placing 3rd place with 98 points. Kickapoo/La Farge won the regional title with 159 points.
Braylee Hyatt advanced to the sectional meet by winning the 100m dash with a time of 12.95, the 200m dash with a time of 27.09, and the long jump with a personal best 16' 5". Hyatt was also part of the 4x200m relay team that placed third with a season best time of 1:51.27 along with Adrianna Biever, Makayla Gooselaw, and Maddie Klinkner. Adrianna Beiver finished 3rd in the 800m run with a time of 2:30.63.
Kate Gronemus advanced in the 1600m run by placing 4th with a time of 6:04.54. Gronemus was joined by Biever, Gooselaw, and Amber Hoeft in running the 4x400m relay to place 3rd with a time of 4:35.63. The 4x800m relay team with Isabell Korn, Juliette Steubs, Julia Boisen, and Lily Gronemus placed 3rd with a time of 12:02.91. Gooselaw jumped 4' 10" in the high jump to place 3rd. Korn advanced in the triple jump with a jump of 30' 2.5" to place 4th.
The Cashton boys advanced in 11 of the events on their way to placing 3rd with 106 points. Onalaska Luther won the boy's competition scoring 155 points.
Jack Hilden placed 2nd in the 110m high hurdles with a career best time of 16.87. Hilden and Jack Schlesner advanced in the high jump, placing 2nd and 4th respectively, both clearing 6 feet. Colin O'Neil jumped 18 feet in the long jump to place 4th. Michael Sueppel placed 2nd in the shot put with a personal best toss of 46-5" and placed 3rd in the disc with a personal best throw of 113' 7" to advance in both events. Riley Verken also advanced in the shot put by placing 4th with a throw of 44' 1". Ethan Klinkner placed 4th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.95. Brett Hemmersbach placed 4th in the 800m run with a season best time of 2:09.19.
All the Cashton boys' relay teams advanced to the Sectional meet. The 4x200m relay team with O'Neil, Klinkner, Jack Hilden, and Onesimo Tirado won the regional title with a time of 1:35.21. The 4x400m relay team with Brady Hemmersbach, Onesimo Tirado, Brett Hemmersbach, and Michael Sueppel also placed first with a time of 3:35.54. The 4x100m relay team with Colin O'Neil, Jake Wall, Ethan Klinkner, and Onesimo Tirado placed 2nd with a time of 45.56. The 4x800m relay team with Luke Clements, Jeremiah Woolhouse, Zach Hirschfield, and Abraham Harter advanced with a season best time of 10:22.18.

The Eagle teams traveled to Mondovi for the Sectional meet on Thursday, May 26th to face the strongest competition of the season. Thirty girl's teams were represented at the Sectional meet. Lancaster girls won the team competition with 72.5 points. The Cashton girls scored 21 points to tie with Royall for 11th place. The top four place winners in each event advance to the State Track meet. Junior Braylee Hyatt placed 2nd in the long jump with a career best jump of 16' 5.5", second in the 100m dash with a time of 12.89, and fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.47 to advance to the State Track meet in each of those events.
The Cashton boys scored 35 points to place 6th. Thirty-three boy's teams were represented. Fall Creek won the boy's competition with 61 points. Jack Schlesner won the high jump tying his career best jump of 6'5". The boy's 4x400m relay team of Brady Hemmersbach, Onesimo Tirado, Brett Hemmersbach, and Michael Sueppel narrowly edged out the team from Alma-Pepin by .08 to claim the sectional title. The 4x100m relay team with Colin O'Neil, Jake Wall, Ethan Klinkner, and Onesimo Tirado placed 4th with a time of 45.68 to advance to the State Track meet.

Hyatt and the relay teams will compete in the preliminary races on Friday, June 3rd during the Division 2/3 competition starting at 3:00 pm at the UW-La Crosse Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
