Ramala Kirking

Ramala Kirking, 98, of Cashton, WI, died peacefully at her home, surrounded in love by her family. Ramala was born on February 17, 1924, to Joe and Catherine Schwellenbach.

On June 25, 1942, Ramala married the love of her life, Lester Kirking. Together, they had eight children: Francis; Donavon; Karen (Jerry Green) from Black River Falls; Donna (Gary Peterson) of Sparta; Jim (Debbie Rezin); Lester "Sonny" (Jeannie Tracz) of Round Lake Beach, IL; Cathy (Bill Meyers) of Cashton; and Kevin (Kathy Mitby) of Cashton.

Ramala was a lifelong gardener. She had a green thumb for every flower, but her favorite flowers were her African violets. She had a beautiful talent for sewing and made many quilts for her loving family. Ramala had a special place in her heart for her animals, including her pet raccoon, Coonie, growing up. She enjoyed working on word searches, finishing puzzles, coloring, watching her birds, and spending time with her best friend, her cat, Prim.

Ramala will be missed dearly by 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren- with one on the way- and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Her family would describe Ramala as caring, hardworking, strong, and loving. She had a giving heart and a sharp mind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Catherine Schwallenbach; her husband, Lester; three sons, Donavon, Francis, and Jim; a daughter-in-law, Debra Kirking; and one grandchild, John Peterson.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Ramala's life will be held Friday, April 1, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited Thursday, March 31, 2022, beginning with a prayer service at 3:45 followed by visitation from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI. Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Ramala was thankful for the wonderful support of the hospice program. Online condolences may be offered at
