Donald "Don" Anton Pieper

Donald Anton Pieper, "Don," 87, of Cashton, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Don was born September 7, 1934, to Ludger and Anna (Brueggeman) Pieper in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He enlisted in the US Army and was active from 1957-1959. On June 11, 1966, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Ardella Schmitz, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sparta, WI.
He began his working career with Casper Linnehan in the Cashton area. Following this, he was employed by Schendel Brothers Construction which later merged with Mathy. This is where Don retired from. In retirement he kept busy with countless woodworking projects that included building anything from toys for his grandkids to wagons and furniture to be used around the house. Making wine had also become one of his great pastimes. Don loved reminiscing with friends and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.
Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Ardella; six sons and a daughter, Mike (Pam), Jeff, Carol (Todd "Elmer") Von Ruden, Steve (Heather), Jim (Staci), Scott, and Kevin (Mindy); grandchildren, Travis and Jenna Von Ruden, Morgan, Aiden and Addison Pieper, Hailey Johnson and Maddie Schendel; two sisters, Alfrieda Roth, and Carolyn (Conrad) Hager; sister-in-law, Caroline Pieper; along with many additional brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ludger and Anna; twin sister, Sr. Dorothy Pieper; brother, Paul Pieper; and brother-in-law, John Roth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton, WI. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday, March 18, beginning with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton. Visitation will also be held Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
