William Frederick Mitchell

William Frederick Mitchell, "Bill," 79 of rural Norwalk, WI, passed away suddenly, the afternoon of Tuesday, February 1, 2022, doing what he loved - working.

Bill was born May 31, 1942, to William Paul and Vera Francis (Leinen) Mitchell, in Chicago, IL. Bill was married to Mary Ann (Collins) Mitchell and to this union 14 children were born. Later in life, Bill married Wanda (Kamer) Mitchell and welcomed her two daughters into his family.

Bill was born ready to work hard and he loved it. He was a proud member of Local 281 Sprinkler Fitters Union Chicago for over 57 years. He was also his children and grandchildren's biggest fan when it came to watching their sporting events, mostly from the outfield, while resting (just his left eye).

Bill enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle, fishing with family and friends, and hunting. He loved hosting his children and grandchildren for Halloween Parties and trips up north. Bill loved to tell "not very funny" jokes. The jokes may not have been the best, but the way he put his whole face into such an infectious laugh is what everyone loved about his joke telling.

In 2014, he and Wanda moved north to their piece of paradise in the Township of Jefferson, rural Norwalk, WI. He found that country life fit him very well. Bill would start every morning taking his best buddy, Fritz for a ride around the block. He then began a full day's work, even though he was retired, Bill was able to find projects and jobs because he liked to stay busy. Bill enjoyed ending his busy day with an after-dinner game of rummy, checkers or any board game the family chose to play.

Bill met many neighbors who became like family to him and Wanda. Some of these neighbors were from the Amish Community. This began his Amish Uber service. He became the Jefferson Township "recycling engineer" (self-named). Assisting with the management of garbage became his passion. Talking to the ridge residents and discussing world problems was one of his favorite things to do.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Wanda; children: Jacqueline (David) Marr, Kathryn (Giuseppe) D'Agostino, Maureen "Mo" (Edward) Borkstrom, David Mitchell, Jennifer (Alan) Rieke, Donna (Joseph) DeKiel, Mary Torres, Amy (Phil) Lazzari, Steven Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, Susan (James) Price, Kelly (Thomas) Flavin, Sue (James) Smith-Walsh, and Patricia Smith-Krueger; 40 grandchildren; brothers: Terrance (Sharon), David (Jean), and Frederick (Patricia); the mother of his children, Mary Ann Mitchell; his faithful-best friend Fritz; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Vera F .; his youngest brother Steven P. Mitchell; and two sons, William F. and Thomas P. Mitchell.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 8, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on St. Mary's Ridge. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

The Torkelson Funeral Home of Cashton, WI, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at
