Richard C. Swiggum

Richard C. Swiggum, age 81, of Sparta, WI, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI. He was born the second child, to Chester and Irene (Onshus) Swiggum, in Westby, WI, on May 13, 1940. Richard went to Clinton Center on-room schoolhouse in rural Cashton, then on to Cashton High School. After school he went to Kenosha and worked at GMC.

Richard married Joyce Stendalen on August 27, 1966. To this union they had three daughters, Cynthia, Stacey, and Jennifer. Richard retired from Trane CO after 28 years.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Stacey (Allan) Bartels and Jennifer (Travis) Thoreson; grandchildren, Amaya Swiggum, Katherine Bartels, Ivy, Chrispin, Willow, Sky, Eli, Ezra, Sammi, and Oliver Thoreson; siblings, Karen and Boyd Rozell, Mary and Bill McCann, Ruth and Dan Hutchison, Wayne Swiggum, Cheryl Sochotsky, Bonnie (fiancé Craig Drake) Strittmater, and Susan and Bill Hundt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon Amundson, Wayne Stendalen, Robert (Joanne) Stendalen, and Gary (Krin) Stendalen, and LaVern Dunnum; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents, Chester and Irene; a daughter, Cynthia; infant sister; brothers-in-law, Roger Amundson, Robert Brookbank and Steve Sochotsky; sisters-in-law, Joanne Dunnum, Carol Swiggum and Kay Swiggum; nephew, Joel Stendalen; mother and father-in-law, Edwin and Irene (Lee) Stendalen.

Richard's family wishes to thank the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, for the wonderful care they gave him while he battled dementia.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 29, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 612 N. Water St. Sparta, WI. Pastor Mark Kvale will officiate. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. Family and friends are invited for visitation Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Family has asked that memorials be given in Richard's memory to a charity of choice. The Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home of Sparta is assisting the family with arrangements.
