Karen I. Schroeder, age 79 of Kiel, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2021, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.

Karen was born on January 31, 1942, in Sparta, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Bernard and Marjorie (née Erickson) Moede.

Karen graduated from Cashton High School in 1960 and furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before finishing her educational journey at Madison General Hospital with a degree in Nursing.

Karen married the love of her life, Michael Schroeder, on August 14, 1965, at Sacred Heart Church in Cashton, WI.

Karen was a selfless, kind, fastidious, and hard-working person. She loved her family deeply and treasured her four grandchildren. She was an exemplary nurse whose career spanned 41 years while retiring not once but twice! Karen looked forward to times spent with family and friends. With her intellectual curiosity, Karen continued to learn new skills throughout her life to compliment her love of music, cooking, and communicating with her family.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband Mike and their two children: Scott (Laurie) Schroeder of Holmen, WI, and Maria (David) Lepisto of Appleton, WI.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Drew Schroeder, Claire Schroeder, Erik Lepisto, and Ellyn Lepisto. In addition, Karen is survived by her brother, Jim (Jo) Moede and her sister, Jean (Gary) McKenzie. Also, by brother-in-law Fred Schroeder and sisters-in-law Mary (Sid) Hanson, Pat (Shelly) Sabinson, Marge (Jan) Klund, Kathy Martens, and Gini (Bill) Mashak. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (423 Fremont Street, Kiel) with Rev. Carl Diedrichs as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday, at the church, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, Karen will be laid to rest in a family ceremony at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cashton, WI.
