Richard "Rich" L. Weibel Richard "Rich" L. Weibel, 79, of Cashton, WI, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI. Rich was born September 26, 1941, to Norbert and Ida (Schmitz) Weibel in rural Cashton, WI. He graduated from Cashton High School in 1959. The winter of 1959 was unforgettable for Rich for a few reasons. The snowstorms were history making in the amount of snow that was dumped on the area. But all the snow did not stop Mary Marx from getting to town to watch the band "Cousin Fuzzy" with Rich. The rest is history; they were married by Fr. Leo Novitt on October 6, 1962, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pine Hollow. When Rich turned 16, he started working at Hundt Implement where he began washing cars and tractors. He quickly started working as a mechanic where he was known to be able to fix anything. Rich had a talent for being able to look at a part that was brought in and tell you exactly what it was and where it belonged, which made him the ideal parts manager. Rich worked at Hundt's a total of 49 years. Rich was very active within the Cashton community. He served on the village board from 1978-1997 and from 1991-1994 was the village mayor. He loved helping with little league, and the Friday night chain gang. Rich and Mary enjoyed bus trips throughout the states and in Europe. He loved to golf with family and friends. He often said that he did his best thinking in the garage getting a breath of "fresh air." Rich is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; children, Randy (Judy) Weibel of La Crescent, MN, Lori Maynard of Golden Valley, MN, Todd (Sharlene) Weibel of Mauston, WI, and Daniel (Kelly) Weibel of Chilton, WI; eight grandchildren, Collin, Ethan, Samantha, Marissa, Rick, Hannah, Graylin and Emma; brothers, Cleo of Verona, WI, Dale (Becky) of Mondovi, WI, Dennis (Lynne Krueger) of Washburn, WI, and Dean (Shirley) of Sparta, WI; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Ida; sister, Joyce Weibel; his mother and father-in-law, Ray and Leona Marx; sister-in-law, Judy Weibel and Mary's sister, Carol (Dick) Rademacher. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cashton, WI. Fr. Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be donated in Rich's name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to Cashton Fire & Rescue Squad. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Cashton, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
