Helen "Aline" Jernander

Helen "Aline" Jernander, 95, of Rockland, WI, passed away with her family by her side Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the Benedictine Villa in La Crosse, WI. She was born November 20, 1925, to Olaf and Helga (Sletten) Larson in Norwegian Valley, rural Ontario, WI.

Aline went to Brush Creek for elementary school and when she was at the Cashton High School she fell in love with the man of her dreams. On September 12, 1942, Aline married Milan Jernander at the North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Cashton. For the first seven years of marriage, they rented a farm on Rognstad Ridge before purchasing the farm they made home on Fish Creek Ridge. They raised their family here and were faithful members of the Fish Creek Lutheran Church.

Aline was very versatile in what she could do when she was not farming. She loved to go bowling. Baking wedding cakes, sewing clothing for anyone who needed or wanted something new, and cooking the best of everything were a few of her handy traits. Family wished she would have kept track of how many pieces of lefse Aline made in her lifetime. She found joy in getting the long wooden turning stick and griddle out to start a batch of lefse. Aline was proud of her Norwegian heritage from the food she baked to taking trips to Norway with her family, she loved everything Norwegian, and she enjoyed sharing her stories with her family.

Once Aline and Milan sold the cows, they began a custom of going out for breakfast daily with friends and family. Eventually this brought about the "Wehrs Bunch" where they developed shed picnics. Aline loved her shed and eventually had it fully equipped with a fully, functioning kitchen. Neighborhood parties, reunions, anytime someone had a reason to celebrate Aline gladly opened up the shed. When Milan died, she continued the morning ritual of going out for breakfast with her friends. She looked forward to seeing her friends and brought great joy to her days.

She is survived by, four children, Dorothy Silha of Appleton, Wis., Ronald (Arlis) Jernander of Rockland, Lois (Richard) Mineo of Hoodsport, Wash., and Lori (Du Wayne) Lind, of Cashton, Wis .; eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Leanne) Silha, Jennifer (Robert) Donato, Michael Silha, Amy (Rolan) Covert, Daniel Jernander, Karen Klinkner, Aaron (Heather) Lind and Stephanie (Jacob Kaitner) Lind; 16 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Jack Donato, Gavin and Peighton Jernander, Kirsten, Kaleb and Kristian Klinkner and Trenton and Madalyn Covert and Kathryn and Evelyn Silha, Terje and Kian Lind, Caelin and Gabrielle Kelly, and Rosalind Kaitner; a sister Clarice (Sam) Lentine; along with many other relatives and friends.

Aline was preceded in death by her parents; husband Milan; son-in-law, Jack Silha.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Fish Creek Ridge Lutheran Church in Rockland. Pastor David Sorenson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Brush Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ontario.

Family and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family has requested that memorials be given in Aline's memory to the charity of one's choice.
