Gerald "Jerry" Frederick Haun


Gerald "Jerry" Haun, 76, passed away March 31, 2021 at Gundersen Health System, LaCrosse, Wisconsin with his family by his side. He was born on February 6, 1945 at home on St. Mary's Ridge to Fred (Fritz) and Annabel (Leis) Haun, the third of nine children. He attended St. Mary's Ridge Catholic Grade School on St. Mary's Ridge. He graduated from Brookwood High School, Ontario, WI in 1963.

He was united in marriage to Rosie Jones on January 14, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wauzeka. To this union, three children were born: Terri, Scott, and Craig. Jerry and Rosie were married for 41 years before she passed away from complications from Multiple Sclerosis in 2008.

Right after high school, Jerry started driving truck and semi for Schroeder Produce, Cashton, WI; then semi for Gateway and Fleming before buying his own semi. After retirement, he drove part time for Mel's Trucking, rounding out a total of 52 years of driving semi.

After 45 years, Jerry was reunited with Audrey Biever and they fell back in love. They were united in marriage on November 6, 2010, at St. Mary's Ridge Catholic Church, where he had been a life-long member.

Jerry was a good man, the best. He was always one to wave at friends when driving around, with a smile on his face. He was the most unselfish person, always putting others before himself. He will be remembered for being quick-witted, fast on the comebacks, hardworking, a family man, and never met anyone who didn't like him.

Jerry loved fishing (especially ice fishing) with his brothers, good friends Dick Osuski and Dave Flock, and his grandkids. He enjoyed hunting for deer in his earlier years, squirrels and hickory nuts in his later ones. He enjoyed watching a good Western on TV and playing cards with his good friends and long-time neighbors, Dwayne and Lori Lind.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Audrey Haun; his daughter, Terri (Greg) Zielke of Onalaska; sons, Scott (Karyn) Haun of Plymouth, and Craig (Liane) Haun of Tomah; seven grandchildren, Mitch Zielke of Stoddard, Dan (John) Zielke of Stoddard, Chandler Haun of Brooklynn, NY, LCpl Gabe Haun currently stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he is serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Brooklynn Haun of New Lisbon, Annabelle and Jacob Haun of Tomah.

He is also survived by his step-children and step-grandchildren, Todd (Karen) Alderman and their children, Danica, Cameron and McKenna all of Onalaska; Tracy Alderman of Janesville and his children, Amber of Texas and Hunter of Janesville; and Tanya Alderman and her children, Hailie, and Mason Metz of Plover, WI.

Leaving to mourn are also his brothers and sisters, Donald (Arlene) Haun, Karen (Jerry) Brettingen, Jim (Toni) Haun, Mary (Jack) Mlsna, Chuck (Sylvia) Haun, Bob (Beth) Haun, and Phil (Monica) Haun; sisters-in-law, Barb Haun, Judy Knelkamp and Eileen Biever; brothers-in-law, Donald (Linda and Paul Biever; and 30 nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by the mother of his children, Rosie; his parents; his in-laws, Percy and Ruby Jones; brother Roger Haun; and grandson Max Haun.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on St. Mary's Ridge. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Wednesday, April 7, 2021, beginning at 4:00 pm and concluding with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at the Torkelson Funeral Home, Cashton, WI.
