The afternoon crept by like a snail with a broken foot. At one point, I was almost driven to examine the clock to see if it was still ticking. None of us did a lick of schoolwork all day. Woodlawn School was decorated within an inch of its life. Paper chains hung from every conceivable spot. Pictures of Santa, snowmen, Christmas trees and any other object associated with the holiday were in full display. We practiced our program until we knew, not only our own lines, but the lines of everyone...
