Patricia H. Shurson, age 83, of West Salem, WI, passed away Tuesday, September 15th, 2020, at RBI Caring Hearts in Bangor, WI. She was born October 15th, 1936, to Lawrence and Myrtle (Running) Peters – the middle child of 5. She was raised on the family farm near Melvina, WI, and this is where she got her exceptional work ethic at a young age. Her favorite memory from childhood was harvesting tobacco with her grandmother.

Pat was a 1954 graduate of Cashton High School. She went on to attend secretarial school in La Crosse, WI. She moved to New Richland, MN when she was offered a job and it was there that she would meet her future husband, Virgil Shurson.

Together Pat and Virgil moved to Willmar, Starbuck, Benson, Mankato and Winona in Minnesota having a child in each town. In the late 70s they moved back to Wisconsin settling in West Salem. She worked as an Activity Assistant at Mulder Nursing Home in West Salem and Morrow Memorial Nursing Home in Sparta. She volunteered for many years at St. Leo’s Church, Morrow Memorial Nursing Home, West Salem Historical Society, Heider Center as well as Lakeview Health Center where she led the residents in Catholic Rosary on Friday afternoons.

She is survived by her children: Judith Shurson of Lakeville, MN; Jolene Dovenberg (Mark Baus) of West Salem, WI (Derek and Brandy Dovenberg: Damien, Madeline, Riley, Aiden, Paige; Andrew Dovenberg; Allison Baus and Justin Helgeson: Jeremiah); James Shurson of West Salem, WI (Katie and Jason Yahnke: Teagan, Kendall, Lyza, Vivian, Julia; Mason Tabor; Austin Lemke: Silas, Ryder; Ethan Shurson); Jenelle and Richard Oldenburg of West Salem, WI (Amber and Steve Czys: Zayn, Zary; Dustin and Nikki Oldenburg; Courtney Oldenburg); and Jennifer Johnson of Mindoro, WI (Jenna and Tony Linehan). She is also survived by her sister, Donna (Norman) Janzen; Brothers: Donald (Florence) Peters, Gary (Marlene) Peters and David (Joan) Peters; sister-in-law, Joan McGuire and brother-in-law, Vince Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Myrtle Peters; her husband, Virgil Shurson; father and mother-in-law, Ben and Agnes Shurson and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 1st, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in West Salem, WI. Father Raja Kennedy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Neshonoc Cemetery, West Salem. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A lunch will be provided at Maple Grove Venues, County Road B, West Salem after the burial.

A special thanks to Alice, Tammy and all of the staff at RBI for the love and comfort you gave Mom over the last 16 months. You took care of her like she was your own mother and we appreciate that kindness.
