Cashton Record - An Independent Wisconsin Newspaper... Serving The Cashton Area For Over 120 Years!

Letter to the editor

Letter to the Editor…

29 “The most important commandment,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Matthew 12:29-31

I have been filled with hope and joy as I have witnessed the multitude of ways that our community has shown love for our neighbors—especially during this pandemic. Today, I would like to publicly thank and recognize the volunteers of the Cashton Cupboard and Closet (CCC).

The day that our school announced they would be closing in order to keep our children and community healthy, the volunteers of the CCC put their heads together and figured out how to continue the ministry of feeding the Cashton area and surrounding communities. In less than 24 hours, they instituted a drive-up food service, completely sanitized the food pantry, and 10-12 volunteers committed to keeping the food pantry open and in service.

The Cashton Cupboard and Closet food pantry NEVER closed and continued to serve quality food, produce, dairy, and more to our neighbors! This entirely volunteer run organization is truly centered in the ministry of love and service, and they deserve our unending gratitude and recognition (Even though, they wouldn’t want any recognition!)

Hundreds of families receive food assistance from the CCC. This food is for ALL people. No proof of identity or financial need is necessary. They truly follow the command of Jesus to love and “give them something to eat.” (Luke 9:13).

Thank you, CCC volunteers, board members, and financial supporters. Thank you to the multiple organizations that donate food to the CCC. This is just another reason that the Cashton community is truly a great place to live and thrive!
