On June 30th, Monroe County Health Department and Emergency Management partnered with the Wisconsin National Guard and the City of Tomah to host a community drive-through COVID-19 testing site. There were 277 tests administered at the event. The event drew in residents from not only Monroe County, but Juneau, Jackson, Adams, and La Crosse counties. Of the 277 tests, 2.5% or seven of the tests were positive. Monroe County Health Department and Emergency Management would like to thank the City of Tomah and the Wisconsin National Guard for their partnership for this event. “Events such as these have many moving parts and require a lot of coordination in a short period of time, we are grateful to have the collaboration of our county and state partners to help protect the health of the public,” said Director/Health Officer Sharon Nelson. Testing allows health department staff to quickly contact positive cases and have their close contacts quarantine. Often times, close contacts, especially household contacts will contract the virus 2-14 days later. “By having these people quarantine, we’re able to slow the spread of COVID-19.
