Kirking ads to his safe collection
July 1, 2020
When Kevin Kirking, owner of Cashton Building Supply and an avid safe collector, was offered the opportunity to own an original piece of Cashton history he couldn’t refuse. The only condition was that he had to move it from the building on Main Street it had been in for decades, originally the Farmers Exchange Bank.
It took himself and five or six others to get the safe, made with a substantial amount of concrete and metal, to get it to Cashton Building Supply where it is currently on display.
During the move, Kevin said he found a few mercury dimes still inside the safe. They aren’t worth anything, he said, but it was still an interesting find.
The wheels still roll, and the door still opens, but Kevin is in search of a small “ship’s wheel” to fasten to the door of the safe.
