Betty Lou Steenberg


Betty Lou Steenberg, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at Glen Saint Andrew Living Community in Niles, IL. Betty was born December 5, 1928, in New Auburn, WI, to Louis and Mabel (Skau) Hoefort.

She was united in marriage to Victor Steenberg in 1947. Together they enjoyed music and spent a lot of time traveling with several bands that Victor was a member of. Victory 5, Steenberg’s German Band and Peerless Pals were some of the band’s they toured with. Music remained important to her throughout her life.

Betty worked as an activity director in a nursing home for many years. This was a profession that she greatly loved because she enjoyed helping people and making them smile.

Betty is survived by her four children, Kim (Debbie) Steenberg of West Salem, WI, Lee Steenberg of Spearfish, SD, Karen Bradley of Houston, TX, and Lynda (Paul) Knott of Des Plaines, IL; seven grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Victor in 2009; her parents; one grandson, Ryan Steenberg; siblings, infant, Donald Hoefert, Lorraine (Clifford) Nyhagen, Lucille (Vernon) Lueck, Virgil (Pauline) Hoefert, and step-sister, Kathleen (Terence) Bitney; step-father, Gerald Keith; great-grandson, Jonah; brothers-in-law, Joseph Amort and Harold Lueck.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2020, 2:00 PM at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI. Pastor Amanda Schultz Garcia will officiate. Burial will follow in the Moen Cemetery, rural Cashton. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
