Former Cashton graduate credited with discovery of new species

It’s no secret Eric Leis, a Cashton graduate, gets excited about the little things, microscopic even. Especially when he is involved in the discovery of new species.

Leis, who is employed at the La Crosse Fish Health Center – Midwest Fisheries Center in Onalaska, has been credited for his part in the discovery of two novel myxozoans. The micro-organism is a parasite the lives on Pirate Perch, a small fish species found in the Mississippi. This is the second time Leis’s research has led...
