Week of Friday, November 11, 1949

Charles Fox of La Crosse miraculously escaped serious injury Monday night when his new 1949 Mercury failed to make the corner near the Stanley Calhoun home. The car was believed a total loss.

Walter Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peterson, has been given a part in Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s brilliant comedy, “The Rivals,” to be given in January at Central State Teachers college in Stevens Point.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Stoikes have sold their restaurant, the Sunnyside cafe, in Ontario to Mr. and Mrs. George Downing.

Week of Friday, November 13, 1959

David Webster, right end, was the only Cashton player who placed on the Scenic Central conference all-star football team named at a banquet of coaches and principals at the Valley Inn in Elroy Tuesday night.

Seven inches of snow last Thursday gave the Cashton area an early taste of winter. The heavy wet snow started Wednesday night and continued most of the day Thursday. Driving conditions were extremely hazardous.

Week of Friday, November 14, 1969

Anyone driving the new Interstate Highway recently opened, will be shocked to see Melvina on several signs along with Highway 27 and Sparta, but no mention of Cashton. Law states that the first incorporated city or village, that is adjacent to the I System must be listed. Leon is not incorporated, but Melvina is.

Bonnie Stefferud, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Stefferud, Cashton, is practice teaching at the Crystal Heights Elementary School in Robbinsdale, MN.

Week of Wednesday, November 14, 1979

The 1979 Cashton Football team is honored for being Conference Champs - Scenic Bluffs, Runner up in State Championship, second best in state for small schools.

A 1972 Ford, driven by Rebecca Wangen, was hit in the left side as she was attempted to turn into her driveway. She was hit by a 1979 IHC truck which was pulling a trailer that was hauling a back hoe. Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch.

Week of Wednesday, November 15, 1989

Math students from Cashton High School took third place last week at the Math Contest held at UW-Platteville. Members of the team include Karla Wiedemann, Ben Mashak, Won Felten, Susan Leuck, Tom Whitehead, Scott Mitchell, Jeremy Biermeier, Sarah Schwarz, Nancy Dicksinon, Eric Dickinson, Cassie Hanley, Chris Von Ruden, Scott Schumacher, and Chris Milne.

Alan Wall, Cashton bank president was honored as a member of the county Banker’s Association which provides a banquet each year for 4-H leader volunteers.

Week of Wednesday, November 10, 1999

The Cashton Eagles football team took on DeSoto at La Crosse Logan last Saturday. The Eagles fell to DeSoto 15-7. They were just one game away from playing at State in Madison.

The Cashton Fire Department responded last night around 7 p.m. to a brush fire on Korn Coulee Road located east of Cashton on Hwy. 33 between Portland and St. Joseph.

Former Cashton Record editor/publisher Marty Erickson has been hired as regional manager for C-R-Homes in Onalaska.

Week of Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Over the weekend the temperatures neared the 70 degree mark.

Irene Mitchell’s 90th birthday was celebrated on Saturday, October 24, 2009 with all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A dinner was held at Badger Crossing in Cashton and cake was served in Sparta at the Morrow Home where she resides.

Cashton FFA chapter received a three-star rating at the National level.
