Florence Rose Steele, 98, of Cashton, WI, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI.

Florence was born June 17, 1921, to Albin and Elizabeth (Dickman) Geier at home on St. Mary’s Ridge. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Ray Steele May 15, 1945, at St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church.

Florence was a devoted farm wife on the family farm in rural Melvina. She was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church and was a member in the PCCW and the Melvina Homemakers group. Her family was her greatest joy. She was an excellent cook, baker, and gardener. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She was loving, kind, and gracious. It was a privilege to call her mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Florence is survived by her children, Robert (Helen) Steele of Eau Claire, Steve (Norma) Steele of Sparta, Mary Perry of Norwalk, Debra (Roger) McDowell of Onalaska, and Ron Steele of Cashton; 14 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granchild; brother, Leo Geier of Norwalk; sisters-in-law, Florentine Geier of Cashton, Marie Geier of Cashton, and Annette Strazin of Cashton; and brothers-in-law, LaMont Haas of West Salem and LaVern (Katherine) Steele of La Crosse. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; son, John Steele; brothers, Henry, Robert, and Roger Geier; sisters, Martha Seitz, and Marie Haas; son-in-law, Donald Perry; sister-in-law, Rose Geier; and brother-in-law, Orval Seitz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 30, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on St. Mary’s Ridge. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, August 29, beginning with a Rosary at 3:45 p.m. and concluding visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
