Betty Jane (Robben) Amundson
August 28, 2019
Betty Jane (Robben) Amundson, 91, of Cashton, WI, passed away August 15, 2019, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI.
Betty was born across the Mississippi River in Verndale, Minnesota, February 9, 1928. She spent her childhood on her grandparent’s farm. After completing 8th grade she moved to La Crosse, WI to live with her mother, Wilma Peters. Wilma was the proprietor of the La Crosse School of Beauty, where Betty became a pupil after her graduation from Central High School.
After completing her degree, Betty worked at her mother’s salon/school. She met the love of her life, William W. Amundson, out one night in La Crosse while “shooting the loop,” a popular social event at the time. They were married August 9, 1947. At this point they moved to Indiana, where her husband attended Notre Dame and earned his degree. She and William then spent a short time in La Crosse, Betty working with her mother and he, for the City of La Crosse, until a job opportunity for William took them to Sioux City IA. They spent the next five wonderful decades together here raising their family. In 1997, Betty returned to the La Crosse area and cared for her husband William until his death.
After losing her husband, she decided on a change of scenery and found a new home in Cashton. Betty made everyone feel beautiful and special. She would tell anyone who was near her that she loved them, and Betty truly did. Mostly Betty felt thankful for everyone in her world that she met. These people that shared her life routinely referred to her as the sweetest person they knew.
Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and many special rewards in her life, including being a board member of the Catholic Carmelite Nuns, being an OB Tech and a Hairdresser. She also enjoyed making black and white pictures into color pictures by hand before color pictures were invented. She also did retail sales.
Betty is survived by her son, Bill Amundson of Texas, and daughter, Karina Amundson of Cashton; Grandchildren (Thomas’s children), Jenna (Justin) Caldwell and her children Grady, Garrison and Greenley; and Lindsey King and her children, Landon, Megan and Kalin; along with other relatives and dear friends, including Toby and Judy Horn, Father Klos, Enid Neubauer and the entire Parish at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Steve Lankford, Jeff Thompson, Carol and Dave Stokes
Betty was preceded in death by her first daughter, Christine Lee, her son Thomas, her husband, William, her mother, Wilma Peters and her grandparents, Julius and Dora Horn.
We will celebrate her life and commend her to her Father in heaven Thursday, September 5, 2019, beginning at 5:00 PM with a prayer service. Visitation will continue after the service until 7:00 PM all being held at The Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI. Father Michael Klos will officiate.
