Week of Friday, July 29, 1949
Two burglaries were discovered early Tuesday when proprietors of two Cashton taverns came to their establishments preparatory to opening for the day. Entry was gained to the combination cafe-tavern owned by Leo Seitz. Between $5 and $8 was taken. Entry into the Wavra tavern was made through a men’s room window. Here too the till was robbed, the burglars obtaining about $5.
The sidewalk crew of Bill Schreier has completed 350 feet of work joining the properties of Burton Lee and Art Dettmann. the walk extends along 100 feet of Godfrey Dorscheid’s property, 200 feet of John McKee’s and 50 feet of John A. Schreier’s. Considerable fill was necessary to level the ground.

Week of Friday, July 31, 1959
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hankee celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, July 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church parlors.
Construction of an addition to the present high school building was authorized at the annual school meeting here Monday night. The vote was 55-1. Estimated cost is not to exceed $80,000.

Week of Friday, August 1, 1969
Wally Hemmersbach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hemmersbach, and Dale Schermerhorn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Schermerhorn have met twice in Vietnam. On the 28th of May, Dale went from Tay Ninh, where he was stationed, to see Wally, who is stationed at Cuchi. They were together that night and again the 20th of June, when Dale was sent to Cuchi on an errand. Both are 1967 graduates of Cashton.
Sergeant Steven Schroeder, son of the Wilfred Schroeders, Cashton, is stationed at King Salmon island, Alaska, where the fishing and hunting is great. He caught this 27 pound, 44 inch King Salmon in King Salmon Creek. He and his buddies caught seven, total weight of 200 pounds.

Week of Wednesday, August 1, 1979
A local business, the Cashton Laundromat, owned by Lawrence Frederick, is an apparent total loss by fire as a blaze broke out in the building around 1 p.m. Tuesday. The place, located on north Front St., also housed apartments reportedly occupied by Veronica Marx, Tillie Schmid, and Millie Brueggen. It was the worst village fire since the VFW clubrooms were totally destroyed several years ago.
Jerome Courtois-Suffit, 14 year old French student from Paris, France, visited the John Sass family on St. Mary’s Ridge near Cashton until August 1. Jerome came to America through the Summer Homestay Program sponsored by the North Athletic Cultural Exchange League.

After a little over a year, the Coulee Region Organic Produce Pool (CROPP) is creeping into second gear, and members are guardedly optimistic about the organization and its potential. Keith Johnson of rural Cashton is manager of the Coulee Region Organic Produce Pool.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mitby of Cashton announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathryn Lynn to Mr. Kevin R. Kirking, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Kirking, Cashton. An Oct. 14 wedding is planned.

Week of Wednesday, July 28, 1999
The rains have been frequent and heavy this summer causing delays for the new track behind the Cashton elementary School, but Cashton residents and parents of track athletes can look forward to home meets this coming school year.
Army Reserve Spec. Kris D. Flock and Aaron L. Olson have both deployed to Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, as a members of Task Fore Montagua to participate in a series of expanded New Horizons mission exercises in Central America.

Schmitz Construction works on completing the canopy covering the bleachers at the Melvina ball park just in time for Melvina’s Frog Days celebration. New playground equipment is also waiting for Frog Days weekend.
Marvin Anderson from Westby caught two German Brown Trout in Brush Creek. The trout were 21” and 18” long.
