Eagles hold off Falcons, wrap up second in SBC


A five run third inning helped the lady Eagles Softball team hold off the Brookwood Falcons last Thursday, and finish the season second in the Scenic Bluffs Conference race.

Teagan Hundt, Alyssa Hooker, and Brianna Wanek all hit singles in the inning. Haylee Connelly and Faith Butzler each doubled to help push runs across the plate and make it an 11-0 ball game.

Cashton got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning after Hailey Huntzicker reached on a lead-off single. Wanek doubled to score a run. Natalie Kramer and Wanek both scored on RBI singles by Connelly and Butzler to make it 3-0.

The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the second, loading the bases twice, to stretch the lead to 6-0.

Brookwood started to heat up in the fifth inning and cut into Cashton’s lead to make it a 12-7 game. The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Cashton surrendered three more runs before shutting down the Falcons to preserve the win.

The Eagles finished the game with 19 hits. Huntzicker 3-4; Kramer 3-5; Wanek 3-3 (double), 3 RBI; Connelly 3-4 (with her 13th double), 3 RBI; Butzler 2-4, 2 RBI; Hooker 2-3.
