A Warrior's Spirit: Benefit planned for Cashton native Oct. 12

Lynn Evans had beat cancer before.

In 2018, she went into remission after having two surgeries to fight breast cancer.

Two short years later, Lynn was not feeling well again. And back to the doctor she went. On Valentine’s Day 2024, – four years and countless doctor visits and tests later – she was finally given an answer: stage four stomach cancer.

Doctors wanted to start chemotherapy as soon as possible, but insurance delays and declined payments pushed treatments back over a month.

Because of this, hope to overcome the second battle was fading.

It was hard for Lynn, and especially so for her loved ones to watch someone who was so outgoing and happy be put through such pain. Lorraine Hanley – a cousin, classmate, and friend – has known Lynn her whole life since they were born only six months apart.

“She just had one of those bright smiles that would light up the room,” said Lorraine. “We’ve been through a lot together. She’s just an awesome gal.”

Due to her condition, Lynn had to step away from the family business – Wilton Bus Service – and cut back on her Tupperware shows.

Lynn underwent another surgery and more hospital stays in July, and as her treatments and condition progressed, the Evans’ had to make adjustments to their home to make it accessible and comfortable for her. This past August, Lynn had a fall which led to her needing 24-hour care, so she moved to the Serenity House in Tomah.

She lost her battle on September 21. She was 53 years old.

Lynn is survived by her husband Randy and two sons Brad and Nick. She grew up on St. Mary’s Ridge and graduated from Cashton High School in 1989.

“I’ll miss our long talks the most, and getting together,” said Lorraine. “The one thing that keeps me going is knowing that she’s no longer in pain.”

Before Lynn passed, a benefit had been in the works since March to help cover medical bills and other expenses. Even though Lynn is gone, the need for financial help is still present.

The benefit will take place on Saturday, October 12 at the Wilton Community Center, 400 East St., Wilton, starting at 1 p.m. Food will be available throughout the day. Other activities planned are a bake sale, basket raffles, wingspan raffles, gun raffles and much more. A bean bag tournament will start at 2 p.m. and a live auction will be held at 3 p.m.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase at the Bank of Cashton, Triggers N’ Tackle, and a few other businesses around the area. Tickets will also be available on the day of the benefit.
